Tertiary Institutions Council for the Environment

TICE History

In 1995, the Ministry of Environment decided to look into the formation of an advisory committee that could be formed comprising of representatives from the various tertiary polytechnic and universities in Singapore.

This advisory committee would look into environmental education at the tertiary level and would serve as a link between the institution and their campus based environmental club for campus based activities. The committee was formally named TICE (Tertiary Institutions Council for the Environment) in 1998.

Member Instituitions
TICE members include representatives from the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic and National Institute of Education.
Role of TICE
TICE’s ultimate goal is to reinforce environmental consciousness and responsibility among tertiary students.
TICE Logo
logo
The TICE logo depicts a leaf. The leaf is the most important feature of a plant. It promotes photosynthesis, controls gas exchange and water loss. Plants cannot grow with just water. They need sunlight and other factors, just like TICE that needs different ideas and resources that need to be gathered and shared to make a better environment.
The structure of the logo- small paths emerging into a main stream and the main stream that grows into a bigger stream and moves towards a brighter area, shows “Unity is Strength”.
The shades of green reinforce the idea of environmental consciousness and responsibility.
